The problem

Clinical induction ran as a fixed six-week classroom programme repeated at every site. Cohorts were scheduled around trainer availability rather than need, staff arrived on the ward having watched procedures rather than performed them, and no two sites taught quite the same thing.

What we did

  1. Mapped the induction curriculum with clinical educators and identified which procedures genuinely benefit from simulation rather than video.
  2. Built a web-based learning experience with structured lessons and assessments that educators can maintain without engineering support.
  3. Added progress tracking that records competency and feeds a supervisor dashboard.
  4. Integrated with the existing identity provider and rostering system so completion data lands where managers already look.

The outcome

New clinical staff complete induction in an average of two and a half weeks instead of six, and reach their first shift having practised each high-risk procedure multiple times. Curriculum changes now propagate to all sites at once.
